ABOUT ME

ISABELLE WIESSLER

Isabelle Wiessler’s work places itself in the long established tradition of expressive colouring known as painting with light.
First developed by such renowned artists as Willem van der Velde de Jonge and William Turner, whose turbulent seascapes and imaginative landscapes were characterized by their chromatic palette and broadly applied atmospheric washes of paint. Their imagination was sparked by natural phenomena and dramatic atmospheric effects. Isabelle’s practise follows this approach. As a keen photographer she records seasonal changes in landscape and the variations of surface reflection on water wherever she may be. She has developed a sensibility to the ever changing  moods of Nature. However Isabelle’s work is not limited to the flat canvas as a painter’s work would be. Her work has an added dimension. By freely machine quilting the surfaces which she subsequentlich paints, a new dynamic is created. The surface comes alive, has movement and intent.Isabelle has a keen eye for detail. This is evident in her mixed media work in which surface manipulation and intricate stitching are used to recreate some of the rich textural experiences Nature has to offer. Her works are fine examples of what an Art Quilt can be. A vehicle for personal expression with a strong feel of quilting tradition and heritage.

Licht zu bringen in die Dunkelheit im Herzen des Menschen – das ist die Aufgabe des Künstlers.

My studio

In the pedestrian zone of Staufen at the foot of the Black Forest, I work in a large, bright room and show my works and objects to interested visitors. Here I also like to teach on specific topics or for groups who would like to work here.

If you like to bathe in colours, Isabelle Wiessler’s studio is the right place for you. Countless machine embroidery threads, whose color nuances, the eye can’t get enough of, are waiting to be used.

Isabelle Wiessler’s works navigate the space between intimacy and distance, between figuration and abstraction. Fiber, stitch, color, and light come together to form spaces that are not closed off, but remain open to our own perception. Many of us, while viewing the works, have the feeling of being drawn into these landscapes—into moors, fields, bark-like textures, or atmospheric spaces of color that appear as sensual as they are fragile.
