The painted quilt

2-3 days

Further Informations

If before or after the quilting, the process with colour onto fabrics, is an extremely interesting aspect for surface designs. We start by giving our fabrics with acryl- or fabric colour, a primary colour in a very easy way. Those individual pieces are already interesting by themselves, but can also be changed by printing or designing afterwards. Other parts will be stitched into patterns. After this step, Isabelle will show you examples, which colours are working best for which effect. We work with: Paintsticks, with discharged paste and Decolourantpaste, with acryl paint and fabric paint. This way, you can make your quilt afterwards more interesting. You can also choose this kind of markmaking right from the beginning. You don’t need any previous knowledge of colouring, just the motivation to arrange colours. You will need basic knowledge of free motion stiching.

The world of rocks – lines, structures and shapes

2-3 days

Further Informations

Stones, Rocks and plats are due to their nature, their shapes, their structure and their colour an infinity source of inspiration. Synthetic materials, as well as free hand machine stiching and Hand stiching are great ways to picture erosion, cracks, column, edges and elevation. If we capture a detail of a stone, try to capture the whole rock, or the experimental implementation can be realistic or the begin of an abstract work. We will realize many samples in this class, which will show many different techniques. We will work with: kunin felt, Tyvek, painted bondaweb, Mull and we will stich on water soluble fabric, as well as directly on the material. It gives also possibility to try working with an embellisher, or to find a new aspect of that work

Layer by layer to transparency

2 days

Further Informations

In those two days, Isabelle would like to play with two different kinds of fabrics, polyester organza and Nylon chiffon scarves. Maybe you know chiffon scarves. In mixed media, there are used to cover surfaces, to make it easier to stich. Here we want to restage the chiffon with all those beautiful colours by itself, by using their transparency. They will be cut, layered and afterwards machine free motion stitched and afterword’s may be hand stitched, to shape for example landscapes. Polyester organza is a material, which can be layered as you like and afterword’s be fused with a soldering iron. That way beautiful, transparency artworks are created, that can be stitched before or after the soldering.

The Magic Appeal of bark

2,5 - 4 days

Further Informations

Trees and barks are a constant inspiration for all our textile works. It also will be the start of many experiments. We will embroider per hand or machine, mixing various materials such as acrylic felt, velvet, lutradur, tyvek and bondaweb. We will tint all these materials in different ways, we will partly alter them with heat, however always keeping in mind our basic idea of bark.

Hot Stuff

2 - 4 days

Further Informations

During this workhop we will discover together any material that can change shape, can be burnt or can melt when used with an ordinary iron or a heat tool and a soldering iron. We will discover how to use acrylic felt, synthetic velvet and painted vliesofix, lutradur as well as how interesting it will be to create new surfaces or ornaments, event jewellery with all these techniques. We will work on different samples using a free hand machine stitch adding them to any larger project as pleased.

Experimental embroidery

1 Day

Further Informations

We will create a new textile surface by using a piece of vliesofix, organza, remnants of wool and some hand stitches (depending on the personal desired effect). We will partly make it disappear with a heat tool, making it more or less transparent and delicate, in accordance with the desired effect. You will then be able to appliqué or include this piece to a larger project

Discover Tyvek

2 days

Further Informations

Tyvek is a waterproof white film which is very resistant and tear-proof made of polyethylene fibers. It can be painted, and when heated, can take incredible shapes; we will then be able to appliqué and hand or machine embroider them to make beautiful cards, a small textile wall hanging or include it in a larger Project. During these two days, we will progressively and together, discover how to use tyvek with an iron, a heat tool and a soldering iron. We will then paint (but nobody needs to be a professional painter!), cut, shrink, fold and of course sew and embroider! In fact, it will be “tyvek in depth”! At the end of the workshop, you will go home with samples made with tyvek; these samples can become your “reference” or can be included in a larger project.

Embroidery criss-cross

2 days

Further Informations

The starting point of this class is the embroidery STITCH – in its different aspects. You will discover through different exercises various hand or free machine stitches. You will also discover how to modernize them (this is not at all a traditional embroidery class), how to associate all of them, especially on supports such as organza, vliesofix and soluble textile. These surfaces and elements could also become the base for textile works associated to Patchwork.
