Lutradur is a 100% polyester non-woven stabilizer and comes in several weights. We will paint it, and print it. Then we will work it in different ways and if necessary, we will also add different material like acrylic felt, foils, expandable paint and painted bondaweb. When using a heat tool or a soldering iron, we will observe how the lutradur can be transformed, melt, and become a new structure. In this way, we can specifically transform it into new surfaces and ornaments.

Tyvek is a tear and water resistant material made out of polyethylene fibers. It can be painted very well and through heat treatment it takes on wonderfull shapes that can be easily worked by hand or with a sewing machine. For example, you can make individual cards or a small picture, decorate a book or photo album cover or work it into a small textile work. Together we will explore different ways of working with Tyvek: with the iron, with the heat gun and with the soldering iron. We will paint, cut, shrink, sew and machine embroider! It is very playful work and you can continue working and trying out during the afternoon.

Workshops

Starting from treebarks as an inspiration, we are going to work on a small wallhanging and will learn through this, how to work with acrylic felt and painted bondaweb. Those materials will be free motion stiched and, with an embossing tool, melted into a treebark form. You can also use what you learn here for other works, that can be either abstract or from a real inspiration.
Afterwards you will have time to work on your own. At 5.00 PM we will meet again to discuss the results and clarify any questions that could have come up.

This very exciting online workshop will lead you step by step to your very own machine-embroidered landscape or detail of a favorite photo. We roughly transfer the photo onto the stabilizer, using its adhesive features to add wool and other fibers. Afterwards, you will machine stich the work with free motion.
You will discover how to use the adhesive water soluble stabilizer in a useful way, as well as how to build up and machine stitch the picture.
Afterwards you will have time to work on your own. The next day we will meet again to discuss the results and clarify any questions that could have come up.
Knowledge in free machine embroidery is required.

First step is to make the leaves out of nylon organza snippet and then stich them in a nice form in free embroidery. Then they will be zapped with an embossing tool, as you want them to look like.
Just wait and see! This is a lot of fun and you will also be able to make a lot of other shapes, for example mussels, trees…
We will also learn how to make nice stitched strings out of wire or wool and how to create a nice background for our leaves.
